In reading we are studying the history of Jamestown, Virginia. Ask your children what they've learned so far! All of their work is compiled into a portfolio in the classroom. Soon, we will have students sign out their notebooks to take home so we can share our studies with you!

Here is a little blurb about the skills students are developing in this unit:
In this unit students will work through stations to develop their learning and understanding of Jamestown, specifically the major events and how people worked together to survive. This is the beginning of our study of democracy and working together democratically. The specific skills that students will master are note taking using Cornell notes, answering constructed response questions using A.C.E, writing from a historical perspective through journal and letter writing, analyzing primary sources using observation, questions and reflections, and persuasive essay writing.
In EfS, 5th grade is collaborating in small groups to plan their first excursion to Rocky Mountain Arsenal on October 29th. Next week, each group will present their ideas to the 5th grade. Then, students will vote on which group should lead the excursion. We are learning about democratic process and continuing our collaboration work from the previous unit.
