That is tomorrow! Hopefully, the weather will hold out for us this time.
Fifth grade has been discussing rights and responsibilities. We have learned that a right is something that is protected and cannot be taken away. A responsibility is something that we should do and is something that often helps encourage our rights. Here are our fifth grade rights and responsibilities that we will use for the rest of this year:
We have the right to a safe environment. We have a responsibility to respect others and ourselves. We have the right to be treated with respect. We have the responsibility to treat others the way we want to be treated. We have a responsibility to be prepared. We have a responsibility to do our best. Our Math Module 1 officially begins this week. In Module 1, students’ understanding of the patterns in the base ten system are extended from Grade 4’s work with place value of multi-digit whole numbers and decimals to hundredths to the thousandths place. In Grade 5, students deepen their knowledge through a more generalized understanding of the relationships between and among adjacent places on the place value chart, e.g., 1 tenth times any digit on the place value chart moves it one place value to the right (5.NBT.1). Toward the module’s end students apply these new understandings as they reason about and perform decimal operations through the hundredths place. Students will be exposed to base ten exponential notation.
